John VIZE was the third child of John VIZE and Esther LOCKWOOD of Rotherhithe, Surrey (see separate Family Group Sheet). He was born 9 August and baptised at St Mary Rotherhithe on 31 August 1804. John worked as a schoolmaster in Greater London.

John VIZE and Matilda LUCY obtained a marriage licence from the Faculty Office London on 31 May 1830 and were married on 5 June at the Holy Trinity church, Stratford upon Avon. Witnesses to the marriage were Charles LUCY, Caroline LUCY and a third that is illegible. John's occupation on the marriage entry is schoolmaster.

Matilda LUCY was the daughter of Thomas LUCY (1764-1829), miller and corn dealer of Stratford upon Avon, and Ann, possibly MORGAN (1763-1839). Matilda was baptised on 10 September 1797 at St John Deritend, Warwickshire. Also baptised on the same day was her sister Caroline, possibily a twin.

A marriage settlement from the LUCY family was drawn up and transferred to John by Thomas and Charles LUCY (Matilda's brothers). John and Matilda settled in St Mary-le-bone. In 1831 and 1832 John appears as a bookseller operating Vize's Circulating Library from his premises in Crawford Street, Mary-le-bone. In April 1832 John filed for bankruptcy. He returned to being a schoolmaster after this.

On 20 August 1837 Matilda died, four days after giving birth to their youngest child, a son who died on about 25 August. They died in their home at Foster Place, Clapham. Matilda and the infant were buried together on 26 August 1837 at St Matthew Brixton.

John died on 28 March 1840 at his home in South Hackney. He was also buried at St Matthew in Brixton.
